> Why a new version?
After almost three years without an update a lot has changed with directories - but not a lot has changed with directory scripts. These changes sparked motivation to update the SBD Directory Software, and launch a new version.
Lets talk about the changes to directories first.
The number one problem at the moment directory owners are finding is the endless amounts of spam being received. While some are finding time-consuming ways of reducing the amounts of spam, others are giving in and accepting bad listings into their directories. Accepting these spam and scraper websites is causing massive amounts of detriment to their venture. Search engines such as Google have publically acknowledged that websites who link to 'bad neighbourhoods' have their SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) devalued, along with any links on their website. For more information on this check out
Google's advice on link schemes.
The flow on effect of this is that people are starting to realise that submitting to these "directories" provides no benefit for them. Thus, they only submit to the quality directories, spam directory owners lose traffic, and their directory becomes worthless to all parties.
Giving in to this spam is the worst thing a directory owner can do, but a substantial amount (from observation - more than 90%) of directory owners continue to accept bad listings. SBD Directory Software 4.0 has developed a number of ways to help fight back against bad submissions, and save hours of time doing so. To check out our anti-spam initiatives
